Meet Luke — the heart and fins behind The Very Shellfish Diver.
Born and raised in the vibrant city of Liverpool, Luke’s love for the sea began just across the Mersey on the Wirral. Childhood holidays along the Welsh coast sparked a deep connection with the ocean — hours spent snorkelling through rock pools and exploring the shoreline.
What started as surface-level curiosity soon led him deeper, as snorkels turned into scuba tanks and local beaches gave way to distant reefs across Asia and Australia.
But not every dive was idyllic. Along the way, Luke began to witness the damaging effects of large-scale fishing operations. Trawlers dragging heavy nets across fragile seabeds left behind more than just empty waters — they tore up habitats, disrupted ecosystems, and raised urgent questions about sustainability.
It was during these dives, often alone and surrounded by the quiet rhythm of the sea, that the idea for The Very Shellfish Diver began to take shape. Luke set out to do things differently — to harvest seafood by hand, with care, and without harming the environment. No nets. No dredging. Just a diver, working in tune with the ocean.
Today, The Very Shellfish Diver delivers some of the highest quality hand-dived scallops to leading chefs across the UK. Harvested from some of Britain’s most pristine coastal waters, every scallop is selected with care, ensuring the best possible flavour, freshness, and sustainability — from seabed to plate.
What started as childhood curiosity has grown into a way of life — one dive at a time.

REGIONS WE COVER
1
WALES
The Welsh coast offers some of the clearest and most nutrient-rich waters in the UK, making it an ideal environment for scallops to thrive. With strong tidal flows and clean seabeds, areas like Pembrokeshire and the Llŷn Peninsula provide the perfect conditions for hand-diving — allowing scallops to grow naturally and develop exceptional flavour.
2
SCOTLAND
Scotland’s rugged coastline and remote sea lochs are home to some of the most pristine and productive scallop grounds in the UK. Cold, clean waters and varied seabed habitats create the ideal conditions for slow-growing, flavour-packed scallops. With many areas untouched by heavy fishing, it’s a diver’s dream — rich, sustainable, and full of life.
3
ENGLAND
England’s south and southwest coasts, particularly around Devon and Cornwall, offer some of the most sought-after scallop diving spots. With a mix of sheltered bays and open coastal waters, these areas benefit from clean tides, healthy seabeds, and a long tradition of small-scale, sustainable fishing. The result? High-quality scallops with incredible texture and flavour, straight from the source.
